Gifford Miller, Chairman

As Chairman of Liberty Art Title Agency, Gifford Miller brings to bear his exceptional experience as a business and civic leader and his strong history of involvement in the arts and the non-profit community. A graduate of Princeton University, Gifford was first elected to the New York City Council in 1996 and became Speaker in January of 2002. He took office immediately after the World Trade Center attacks and provided fiscal leadership to the City during the financial crisis that followed — helping to bridge a $7.5 billion budget gap while protecting critical City services. He was particularly known for his consistent championing of public support for the arts. Since leaving office in 2006, Gifford formed Miller Strategies, a strategic consulting firm advising businesses on navigating New York's governmental and business environment. He also spent a year as a Public Figure in Residence at New York University, teaching and lecturing on government and politics. Gifford is active on the boards of a hedge fund and several non-profits, including the Friends of the High Line, the New York Academy of Medicine, New York City Outward Bound, and the Advisory Council of the American Museum of Natural History.
